The way my office's building was set up is crazy: the parking lot is in the back of the building so people have to walk all the way around the building to get to the front where I and the lobby are (I'm the receptionist). People just came thru the back door at first so we put a sign on the back door that says "all visitors, including deliveries, please use the entrance at the front of the building". Well, the delivery guy for a restaurant around here obviously can't read as he always comes in through the back door. I asked him today if he would kindly use the front door as our brokers get a little peeved when people come in through the back. And this guy, while standing in the lobby of this office where the big, beautiful front door is just to his left, actually pointed to the front door and said "that door?". I just smiled and said "yes" and he said "but there's no parking there". I wanted to scream when I explained how he'd have to use the sidewalk that leads to the front.

"Heeeere's you sign"

By the way, he's perfectly able-bodied.
And the brokers I work for do get mad when people use the back door so I wasn't just picking on him.

Ok, to give clarification:

He speaks English.

My desk can't be moved for two reasons: 1.) because the back area is simply a hallway, not a lobby. 2.) My desk is attatched to the wall in the lobby.

We discussed locking the back door in a meeting but majority voted against locking it (why? I don't know).

I'll be sure to use paragraphs next time, sorry.

Yes, yes it does.

A few weeks ago I was at my second job at a local mall when this blonde chick walks up to my desk (concierge desk) and asks which way to Starbucks. I said, "Around to the left." And pointed in that direction as well. She wanders off to the right. So I shouted after her, "To the LEFT!" And then I hear... "You mean that way?" And she was pointing to the left.

Oh boy.

What an inconvenience to your customers - perhaps the owners of the building need to post an adequate sign with a diagram showing where the public entrance is, and then keep the back door locked! You could give keys to those deserving individuals who use the parking lot entrance.

The set up in your office is ridiculous. You can't get mad at people for using the more convenient door. Why don't they just move your desk?

You might be a redneck if you cant read a sign and are just too darn lazy to follow the directions.

It depends on what he's delivering. If it's heavy or awkward, he should use the closest door to the parking area.

You could say, "Nope, that's the front door for the people that can read. You have to use the handicapped front door."

Here's Your Sign!

He aint as dumb as you think.
Delivery guys have to move fast all day. He is saving time, and could care less about your brokers door policy.
He knows what he is doing.
