I never heard of cat's nails getting painted. I wouldn't reccomend it since they lick their paws and perfume can make a cat get a rash, depending on what kind. It's OK to worry. It means you love your cat. Sorry about all these people and their rude comments!

The nailpolish is probably not too harmful so long as the cat does not ingest any, but cats lick themselves clean, and this could have unforeseen consequences. The perfume is a major concern. Vets are finding that allergies in pets are becoming very common due to all the smelly things like air fresheners and perfumes in our homes. A reaction to an inhalant like perfume could quite literally kill your cat, the same way it could kill a person with severe allergies. A cat can't tell you when it starts to feel bad or have trouble breathing, and by the time you notice it may be too late. Even without allergies, this is just cruel. Have you ever been near someone who was wearing too much perfume? Imagine how perfume smells to a cat, whose nose is approximately 14 times stronger than yours. Again, the fact that cats bathe by licking means that the cat can also ingest the chemicals in the perfume. While this may not seem like a large amount, consider how small a cat is. Even a trace amount may make the cat sick. your in-laws obviously do not know how to properly care for an animal, and should not be left with the cat unsupervised.

honestly... its over... its done.. .let it be but just be aware next time u go on a trip... if u dont like the treatment they offer you should choose another place... The nail polish wont hurt and if they love cats they probably used an animal safe fragrance.. the only trouble would be the animal injesting the fragrance through natural groomin i.e. LICKING THEMSELVES or skin scalp irritation.. They do sell animal fragrances and they can be a pleasant change to cat or dog odors... its not a big deal at least u know they loved on the cat and didnt throw it down in a basement for the entire trip... be appreciative for what they did do and try to ignore the other stuff.....

Actually nail polish and perfume do harm animals. Cats in particular have rough tongues that they use to clean themselves daily, when your cat tries to lick themselves it will digest all of the perfume on her hair. I would get a animal friendly shampoo and give your cat a bath to get the nail polish and perfume off.
Also, the next time you need a sitter for your cat either try to find another sitter or if you need your in laws to babysit, make up a story. Politely tell them last time when you guys were watching my kitty you sprayed perfume on her and she ended throwing up her food for several days. Explain to them that cats bath themselves with their tongues and everything that is in their fur they end up digesting. A little white lie doesn't hurt from time to time, plus this takes the blame off of you. You are just the messenger after all!

That's interesting?
Does your inlaws have any young children??
It would be a little uncomfortable, I know, but just picking the cat up & taking one look at it, your inlaws would've seen your faces & known something was up.
Dropping a little comment of, "Oh, how pretty you look with your nails painted, Oh you smell nice too, What's up with that?
And just wait for their reaction with a straight face
The nail polish and perfume wont har the cat. So he will just have to avoid other cats for a while as he wil definatley be one in a million

That is BAD. Do you think the cat liked it? I doubt it. Perfume can cause serious reactions in animals and the nail polish might be... I don't know... eaten. You don't have to say anything but I'd suggest you don't leave the cat with your in-laws again. Ever.

I don't think you should worry about it. Although I'm not sure if nail polish would hurt the cat if in jested, my cat sometimes bites his nails. I wonder if the nail polish groomers use is less toxic. If you really feel the need to say something, maybe just tell them that although Fluffy looked fab you decided he looks better in the natural look.

I think it's funny and cute. Take a photo of the cat with painted nails and have it framed and give it to your in laws for a thank you gift for taking care of your cat.

Let it go. It just sounds like they were having a little too much fun. Just don't let them watch your cat anymore if it bothered you that much. Maybe they thought it would be funny? I wouldn't babysit someone elses cat, so you've got to give them credit for taking care of it.
