Not a big problem if u intend to do it.

1)U have to submit an application at the muncipal office for the certification of change in name.

2) I've seen ppl giving a small column of ad in news papers.

3) If u apply for passport, there is a column mentioning if u have changed ur name.

So I guess u will have alternates every where if u change ur name.

All the best ! Good luck ! :-)

The option to change name is to file a declaration and a petition to effect change of name before the executive magistrate of the district in which you are domociled and the said executive magistrate has jurisdiction. After a paper publication of the change of name and the circumstances mentioned by you in your petition is considered and an order is paased by the executive magistrate.

Thereafter the said order is to be circulated with the General Administration Department of the Particular State and on an application to publish in the Gazette notification of the change being effected giving reference to the order of the executive magistrate. The publication of the gazette in English, Hindi and any other language of your preference has to be obtained and through a letter the same should be given to all concerned where it is necessary to affect the change of your name.

The name change is done in exceptional cases on extraneous grounds of health or astrology or any other reason which you may have. Though the process is cumbersome, there are no complexities after the name change is done.

Please consult a local lawyer who will guied you more with regard to the procedure and the law.

Whatever name you want to carry on your business later on - should be provided to all relevant sources.

Keep the name change notification record - indicating Date and place, where changed or a newspaper notification with date etc. You do not have to go back to change old records.

You wife's maiden name (unmarried name is also acceptable in certain countries or provinces or states - it all depends ).
