This is why every state needs to have a safe drop point and advertise that they do. Let those teenage mommies know that they can just leave their baby with someone at the hospital with no questions asked.

Because society has made them feel ashamed. They are fearful of telling anyone for fear of being socially outcast. This is so much so that it is now vertually impossible for most people to adopt children from the USA. Young Moms are keeping thier kids for monitary (they get state money to raise thier kid while thier mother is still housing and feeding them) and selfish reasons (like trying to trap a man, wanting someone (baby) to love them, cause they think they are going to be good at it); those who give birth and then do something stupid (like leave them on the side of the road) ...well these are the girls who have been taught that thier life would be over if they had a baby, or maybe they killed the baby by accident because they had no parenting skills. If the pro-lifers are able to set back the progress of society by making abortions illeagal again this type of incodent will only increase. My only plea would be don't have the baby in the first place, if you have any question about your parenting skills. I have seen too many children (I'm a social worker) who have been unwanted and mistreated because of people not being honest with themselves and thier lack of parenting abilities. If they keep the child, the child usually ends up having emotional if not also developmental delays and problems beyond what any foster parent/ adoptive parent or other childcare providers can ever reverse. Even with the youngest of children. If they could have been given the support, strength, and courage to admit thier faults or lack of ability, and there was exceptance in our society to hold people in high regaurd when they can make a choice to give thier child a chance at a better life from the start.

I have no idea why the do that. Here in Miami they have a policy of not asking any questions at all if you drop your baby off at a fire station. They will take the baby and find the proper care for it. But that happens a lot here too. You here a lot about it on the news here. I think that is why they started the program. People are messed up though. I heard of this story where this mom tied her baby girl to a board and put her in a plastic bag and put her in a lake in brazil. Some guys heard squeels and thought it was a cat when they pulled the bag out and opened it they were so surprised that it was a baby girl. And she was alive and is doing fine now. There is even video of when they found her, here is the clip.... (click the launch on the right to see it)

I couldn't believe it. I am so glad she is o'kay though and so glad those men found her. What if they hadn't? Would anyone have found her. Some people are so messed up and crazy.

I agree with you! You can leave the babies at the local fire department and they do not file charges they place the baby in the right care. When there are so many options and places to take the baby anonymously without getting into any trouble why harm/kill the baby by dumping them in a trash can and then face jail time. GOSH I can't believe some people but then again I have two children and I feel truly blessed. I am with you though, drop the baby on my door step.

I dn't understand it either. I was 16 when i had my first baby. and she has grown into a beautiful 4 yr old little girl. I could not imagine life without her. I really sucked having to grow up so fast but i put myself in that situation and had to take cre of my responsibilities. I wish these other teenage moms would do the same.
Or use all the other options out there. I personally, do NOT believe in abortion unless you we're raped and the pregnancy is a product of it. Or if there is a medical neccesity for an abortion. not because you are too young or can't aforrd it. The option for that is adoption.

yeh, take the baby to a church or anywhere safe, the baby did not ask to be born, you were a baby once and someone took care of you, they didn't throw you away like a rag doll, they are little humans too. if you didn't want a baby why were you not on some form of birth control? I feel bad for someone with no heart. If you are caught you will go to jail. i would rather give the baby away then face going to jail, and someday you will have to answer to a higher power for what you did!

Some states do not have safe haven laws, so if a mother leaves her baby at a hospital, church, etc she faces serious jail time. Also even in places with safe haven laws most teens are unaware of them.
Also parent's attitudes of "if you come home pregnant I'll" are not helpful AT ALL. You should discuss how to prevent pregnancy, your views on when sex is appropriate, and what to do if there is a potential problem like STD or pregnancy and stress you will support your child and love them no matter what.

I really dont think a normal and mentally well person could do something like that. Keep in mind that postpartum depression can get really severe, add that to being young, probably alone and persecuted, probably undereducated, scared, etc., and its a recipe for disaster. It's scary, and maybe if we promoted safer sex practices, and people didnt treat teen moms like the plague, they wouldnt go off the deep end like that. Post partum depression is dangerous and if the girl doesnt have someone who cares enough about her to notice that she has it, its obviously very dangerous to the baby.

Because they are not educated on what to do in the situation. I am not saying they are stupid I am saying there is not a proper sexual education course designed to teach you what to do in the worst case scenario. Some girls just do not know that you can walk into one of the places you listed and hand over a baby no questions asked.

i say parents need to teach their children different when it comes to sex. make them see it should be more than a passing fancy. it has consequences. parensts should be more careful at what they do and allow in front of there kids. also parents should keep up with there kids more. know where they are. when they drop there babies off there should be hell to pay for them. they should have to deal with years and years of classes and fines and every thing else. some people can thave kids. they wanted to be grown up and have sex, make them grow up and deal with it.
