I knew a couple that owned a cute little Prairie Dog, but after some guy from Chicago made them sick and sold them, the government banned their sale. Does anyone know of the ban has been lifted? Are Prairie Dogs for sale now and if yes, where?

I know Praire Dogs are wild, but weren't dogs, cats, birds, fish, guinea pigs, rabbits, horses etc. also wild at one time?

And the couple I know that actually has a Prairie Dog, let him run the house, just like a regular dog, with a "No shoes in the house" rule. He even has his very own dog bed.

That last website had a whole lot of information on cute small pets just like prairie dogs and imsure if you can't get a prairie dog you can find the other guys interesting to keep.

And to the people who discourage them as pets please there alot of animals in this world that shouldn't be pets but im sure the animals are happy being spoiled and pampered by a human caregiver then out on their own.

well since prairie dogs were carrying diseases that killed off a couple people, I am pretty sure they are still banned. They also are carriers of the fleas for bubonic plague, which outbreaks every once and a while (that was what killed off half the population of Europe way back).
The guy did not "make them sick" He did not quarentine them correctly, which is how they got monkey pox, but they also carry many other diseases.

They also are bad pets- they need room to dig and are highly social creatures.
As for the animals you mentioned being wild at one time, yes they were, but that was a couple thousand years ago. Prarie dogs are no where on the domestication route.

Are you sure it was a prairie dog and not a ferret? Ferrets look similair to prairie dogs. They are illegal in some states but not all.
Chicago,IL has a no ferret law.
They really do look like them I have 2 females
Just thought I would mention that it may have been a ferret

Prarie dogs are wild animals and should be left alone. They aren't meant to be cooped up in someones house in a cage. Get a hamster or guinea pig-they are bred specifically to be sold as pets.

Prairie dogs are meant to live their lives in freedom not caged and confined for your enjoyment.
