I don't know what to say to them! The other night, they called me up and told me how bad they were bleeding. I don't want to see them hurt and I don't want to let them go as a friend! What can I say that is comforting and smart at the same time?

Tell an adult NOW. Your friend is probably depressed, and this behavior can lead to suicide. Its inportent that shes alive and after therapy, happy.

There is something more going on for them to be cutters, Ask them why they do it. Ask them if they relize the scares they are going to have and if they have children later in life they will ask where the scares came from. There has to be someone you could talk to in your community about this and maybe they can lead you in the right direction to get help for them.

Go to a school counsellor or better yet, risk the friendship and tell their parents because you could potentially save this person's life! My niece used to be a cutter, these people are just ripped to shreds on the inside. They need help....now.

How old are you guys? If under age, tell an adult.
If not, call a near by hospital - they should know what to do about this.

i agree that you should tell a counselor or teacher. then they will respect your privacy by not telling her it was you. and then she can get the help she needs.
