it means how many miles your engine has been driven ie. here to your house 10 miles, round trip 20 miles you have just put 20 miles on your car hence mileage or pending the car about 3/4 gallon gas

There are generally 2 odometers on a car. 1st one tells you how many miles the car has been driven since it was built. The 2nd one is called a trip odometer. If you reset this one it will tell how many miles you have driven since the last time it was reset. Mileage can also refer to the distance a car can go on a given amount of fuel. for instance my car gets 34 miles per gallon. I hope this helps.

It depends upon how it is used - if you mean "Your mileage may vary", then they are referring to the fuel consumption of the car. Not every Ford Focus will get the same mileage as every other Ford Focus, and nor will every Dodge Ram get the same mileage as every other Dodge Ram. Mileage = mpg, or miles per gallon.

Other possible explanations exist, but this is most likley what is meant.

It means how far the vehicle actually has been driven -- providing no one has messed with the odometer of course!
