I heard this morning that the Dixie Chicks aren't nominated for any of the American Country Music awards but were nominated for and I believe won a Grammy. They have apologized for what that said about President Bush and his descisions. Do you think they have been punished enough and do you think they are sincere about there apology? And do you think we should cut them a little slack? I love their music, but I am just a little iffy on their outspoken beliefs. Tell me what you think about the whole thing. I would like to know what everyone thinks good or bad. thanks for your comments.

They took back their lame apology --and if you listen to "I'm Not Ready to Make Nice" that confirms it.
Sure Natalie's entitled to her opinion according to the Constitution but nothing says people have to agree with it. And we have the same right to not buy or listen to their music.
Whether you agree with a president or not--he is still the leader of our country and deserves respect.
A concert is not a forum to be used to force your political views on the audience. I go to hear the music and that's all. The DCs should have just "shut up and played" but now it may be too late--I think their boat has sailed, and left them behind.

Their apology never happened and it is obvious with their song "Not Ready To Make Nice". I used to like their music and they are indeed talented, but after their remark I threw away a cd by them. The Grammys were mostly a statement against the President which was painfully obvious to me as others were more deserving of the awards than them. Yes they are outspoken and have no respect for the President and I have no respect for them because of that. Entertainers would be better served if they would keep their political beliefs to themselves as I don't really care about their opinion. All I want to hear is their music and nothing else.

They recanted their apology at the start of their latest tour, in which thay had to cancel half their US shows due to low sales. I don't think it was ever close to sincere, I think Natalie tried to get ahead of the backlash at the time to save album sales, and now that W's approval ratings are low, she changed her tune again, to court the 'majority' they now think opposes W.

They won their Grammys, but have to realize that the Grammy organization is made up solely of industry people, many of whom hold similar beliefs.

Punished? They had a right to speak, Country radio had a right to ignore them. their is no amendment that says people have to buy their music.

I think 'Not Ready to Make Nice' works as a good break-up song, and had they not gone the political finger pointing route in the video, I could like the song, had they not gone out of their way to unapologize, i could accept them for having an opinion

She said what she said, and I could accept her opinion, and almost respect it.
She apologized for it and I could believe she might have been genuine.
She recants the apology to coincide with the next album, I have to see that she is just playing to what ever crowd she happens to be in front of in the best hopes of selling more records and nothing more. that I can't respect.

The Dixie chicks chose a poor time to express their opinions...I feel they really took advantage of their fame and being on stage to disrespect out President. Punished enough? Look at Jane Fonda no one has forgotten what she did when she protested the Vietnam war. Words live on forever...choose them wisely.

Their newest album is more pop than country. It's no surprise it wasn't nominated for a country music award.

They apologized? Since when?

It's not WHAT they said - it's WHERE they said it that upsets people. A concert in a foreign country is not the best place to talk junk about the President of the United States.

that whole situation just pisses me off. i was proud of them for saying what they did, because it's their right to have and voice their own opinions as they please. i would probably have said the same thing if i were in their shoes, even though i'm from texas myself. the fact that people boycotted their music for their political beliefs absolutely disgusts me. they are very talented musicians, and they have every right to be recognized for thier musical talents. their political beliefs shouldn't interfere with that. if someone decides to not listen to them because they don't enjoy their music, that's fine. but to boycott a good group for things that had nothing to do with their performance abilities is completely ignorant. whether you agree with them or not, they never should have been "punished" in the first place, they are each americans, therefore they each have the right to their own points of view.

Yes they apologized and all, but the one thing that is screwing them is that the are from Texas and they bashed another Texan, that is a no no.

They have NEVER apologized for what they've said about George Bush, and they shouldn't.

Hell,I'm embarrassed I'm from the same country as the man.

properly if I submit to in ideas their historic previous accurate, they were easily time-honored because the Dixie Chickens very early on(after the music via Little Feat,if I submit to in ideas accurate). MQ:with out you waiting to Run see you later Earl(the video is humorous as hell) there is Your problem i'm no longer waiting to Make magnificent i visit Love You better You were Mine Cowboy Take Me Away Now the ironic element is that in present day years(i imagine)extra people have come round to The Dixie Chicks perspective, now the reason behind each and each of the outcry is you'd be intending to appreciate that it become merely a touch over a year because the 9/11 assaults and all of us understand merely how loved that George W Bush become on the prompt(submit to in ideas he had the optimal approval score of any US president in historic previous),so if people say something undesirable antagonistic to him on the prompt, obviously people are going to get up in hands, now had Bush been no longer virtually as loved and The Dixie Chicks suggested what they suggested, the outcry would've been minimum to none! those are my ideas.
