We will be up there the weekend of St. Pat's. Can anyone make any suggestions of what to do or where to party that night?

The Metromix website has a whole slew of things going on on St. Patrick's day, from the parades (South Side Irish parade and the one downtown, to the bars). My suggestion: Go to Old St. Patrick's church in the west loop in the morning to ask for forgiveness for all the bad things you're going to do the rest of the day. That's what everybody else does... :)

In Chicago? On St. Patrick's day? Anywhere, babe. This is the town that dyes the Chicago River green - how many other places will do that?
If you need more specifics, just ask the cabbie to take you to Rush Street, and write down the name and address of your hotel, so you can show the next cabbie where you need to go to get back.

I go to both parades every year, the funnest thing to do is after the parade downtown on the 17th just start wandering to the north (or slightly west and north) and every block or two you'll see a crowded bar, stop at them all and eventually you'll have made it to the Rush St. area the other anwers mention and have gotten to see a nice section of Chicago along the way. At some you may get lucky and get to see some drunken bagpipers playing up close.

All the most popular bars are along Rush Street. If you like blues, check out the Kingston Mines. It's a bit further north but they keep the place rockin' 'til 5am.

final year I went to check out the river being dyed green and then walked right down to offer Park for the parade. the two have been rather cool. and that i've got been given some great %. of the river.

Check out the parade on the 17th and then hang out over on Rush Street. Chicago's fabulous elite always hangs out there!
