Alright, I'm sure that part of the reason is because it is freezing here. We're talking wind chills of 10-20 below 0. But every time I press the gas pedal, not the brake, on my car, there is a whistling noise. What could it be?

The air intake may have some ice buildup around it, or the belt is squealing due to the cold temp.

Dude that's cold. I always leave the lodge up in the north when it gets too cold as the duct tape on the van starts to crack and we don't want to have to redo that job too often

Diagnosis of cars is hard over the internet but a few explanations are;

1. There is a head gasket leak which is allowing air to pass through and is worse when you press the gas.
2. Your radiator and/or tubes may have air in the system.
3. Is your car turbo charged or super charged because that can cause a whistling noise.
4. The car may just be reacting to the cold...everything works differently when it is that cold. Does it continue to happen even when the car is warm?

You may have a vacuum hose broken or leaking. Open the hood and look for broken or loose small rubber hoses. Don't worry if you don't see it, it may not be on top. If you don't see it, take your ride into a reputable mechanic.
A vacuum leak can do damage and/or cause the engine to run roughly or not at all.
