ive been writing poetry, short stories, prose. . .any kind of creative writing/literary fiction for awhile now. .. but ive also been a drug addict. . .im attempting to get sober but am worried about how well i can write without drugs, ive always used a variety of narcotics as a sort of catalyst to prime my writing. . .any ex-drug users and/or sober writers out there, please help -writing is my life

art is about inspiration...you should write about what inspires you...you don't need drugs to be inspired....you are the one doing the writing, not the drugs

Well now you will have to look for tangible inspiration, meaning that you may learn to write again by sitting on the shore watching the waves roll in, or at a cafe' people watching. Writing is a talent, it hasn't left you. You might have to find new ways to tap into the energy but the talent is still there.

I think you have to convince yourself that the high you get from writing is enough. If you are writing BECAUSE you are high, you're not really writing. It might sound cool -- I know, I've been there -- but self-discipline and practice are going to serve you better than drugs.

I have 7 years of drug induced creative writing.. that is AMAZING... that was 3 years ago.. Ive been sad and sober and haven't written a word in forever
