The paper can be about pretty much anything. I need at least 3 different sources, a thesis statement, and a chosen audience. Those are the standards and again, the report can be about anything that holds my attention for over 20 days, which includes:

1) Martial Arts
2) Playing music
3) Writing stories/books/poems
4) Cats
5) New Zealand
6) the US Coast Guard

Could anyone please just give me a topic from the 6 larger topics above. I'll consider them gratefully! Thank you!

You could pick one instrument, and do a history of it and explain why that particular one is important, and how its use in music has changed over the years. Something like the harp, maybe?

Or, how the electric guitar revolutionized (or detroyed) modern music - depending on your opinion...

Or, you could do something on the role of the coast guard after hurricane Katrina hit the southern US.

Use the Coast Guard and write about the experiences of members of the coast Guard. That might make a difference. There should be lots of resources and you can even find current and former members of the coast guard to interview. You want to make sure that your focus is narrow and that you have a strong an interesting thesis statement. I would suggest doing some basic reading on the Coast Guard to narrow your focus and decide what issue to cover. I believe that currently there is a debate on raising funding to replace some aging equipment and ships in the Coast Guard. Or perhaps your thesis statement might be an argument for or against merging the Coast guard within another branch of the armed forces. Or you could argue that other students your age should join the Coast Guard.

Whatever topic you choose, make sure you have a specific narrow focus and a strong argument in support of your thesis. It shouldn't sound like a entry in an encyclopedia but more like an argument for or against.

Good Luck!

Personally, I would pick a certain style of martial arts and look into that. You could go into the history of it, what the style is like, ect. For things like New Zealand it would be difficult to come up with a thesis statement. Also, playing music and writing stories are very personal experiances so sources might be a little bit harder to come by. When writing research papers you need to think more of the readers experiance and less of yours. It's good to actually leave yourself out of it as much as possible.

I just finished writing an 8 page paper that I spent 3 months on. These are the different things we disscussed in class.

Write a paper about the opportunities for musicians in the Coast Guard. Your audience could be high school students who want a job that incorporates their music.

You can write about the New Zealand regarding their geography and people, the martial arts they practice as sports, their artist like musician, poets and famous author of their most read books.

I agree with the second answer. If you like music, pick your favorite instrument and do a report on that. Or do a report on FENDER...the number one selling guitar ever....it might be fun...you can call up people and ask them questions you have about it...interview people who make them....try doing something like that...other people would find it interesting too...remember, you have to entertain your teacher as well as make it fun for you
