Reptiles are cold-blooded by nature. They require external heat sources to produce energy that allows them function through out the day. They also pause on warm sand or rock after meals to aid in digestion.
This is the reason that most pet store require you to buy either a heat lamp or heat rock upon purchasing a reptile. Without heat a lizard would actually starve to death.

Lizards are cold blooded. What this means is that they rely on sunlight and other external sources of warmth to regulate their body temperature.

Human and all mammals are warm blooded meaning that they maintain a particular temperature by internal processes.
