They had lost the war on any event once they invited the US into it, but many German veterans believed they had been betrayed by what became their Government, and quite angry about it, especially as the economy spun loose under the pressure of Versailles reparations. So we have a number of nationalist parties springing up during the first phase of the Weimar Republic.

Why the NSDAP became the major one is guesswork, though I believe it owes something to the charisma of its leader. Once it had become the leading fascist party, and once the Depression hit in full force, Germany pretty much had to become either Nazi or Communist. I really don't know which outcome would have been worse, but they were both bad.

an excerpt. doesnt sound like he would hav been too involved with Adolf if he was sane....but who knows, dont always believe what you read.
