I have mint cond't 2002 grand am. about 90,000 miles on it. In the morning it would not start up right of way like it normally does. When it did start the car is real load and rough, i shifted into Drive and the car won't go faster than about 20MPH, there is strange white smoke coming out of exhaust that smells real bad, oil level is ok

I'll go with the head gasket guy, White is Defineatly water being burnt in the combustion chamber.
Pull the radiator cap stick your pinky in and if it has dark oil residue on it Gaskets.
This can happen if it has some miles and in the colder weather they can break seal if they cool too fast. No way to control it. on all older 6's this happens on about 40% of them.

Check for bubbling in the radiator with the cap off while the engine is running . Remove cap only if it is cool!!! Head gasket may be blown.

Sounds like your head gasket or a cracked block.
Could be a pricey fix.

Yep, sounds like a head gasket. Are you low on coolant?
