I took my driving test yesterday. I was pretty excited, and everything was going well. First, we checked that I knew all the controls. Then, I parked between some cones without hitting them, and backed out without hitting them. Then, we took it to the street. Blah blah, follow directions (I made a mistake of not slowing down and looking both ways before crossing an unmarked railroad track...? Weird.) But I didn't fail for that. So we come to a four-way intersection, and I'm supposed to turn left. The light is green, and I pull behind this big SUV. I look left, then right, and see nothing coming, and the SUV goes. Still seeing nothing, I proceeded.. But made the mistake of not stopping anyway, because I was supposed to look for oncoming traffic straight forward.. So I failed. I don't want to fail it the second time, so what can I do to make sure nothing goes wrong on my next test?

Spend a bit more time driving on your learners permit to get comfortable with driving on public streets. Make sure to asks the licensed driver that is riding with you for advice on where to look when going through an intersection for different turns (i.e. left turn, right turn, and straight too). You'll also find that not all intersections are the same. Some will have restrictions that you should familiarize yourself with (i.e. No left turn between 6 AM - 10 AM). Practice will help you become more familiar with the rules of the road.

FYI - Failed my first attempt too (didn't identify a couple signs correctly).

Well, i failed mine the first time too b/c i parked too close to th curb when i had to park on the side of the road. [ stupid huh? i didn't know you could park too close..] i just pracitced for a few hours and then went back the next day i could take the test. I'd say you're pretty normal for worring about your next test. I know i did! but, i'd say just practice a few more times and relax. This time, you know what to expect from the test and what to do and not do. You'll do fine.
Good luck!!

The two mistakes you made, which you might think are no big deal, could be fatal. So you failed, properly. Get yourself a more cautious, defensive attiude. Realize that cars KILL 50,000 Americans each year. And teenagers are disproportionately represented in the fataqlity statistics. Practice a bit more, and retake the exam in a few weeks. If your attitude is reflected in your comments ( "blah, blah.....?Weird...But I didn't fall for that....
I was supposed to look for oncoming traffic straight ahead.."

well, DUH, UH, that's bad attitude and bad driving.

The best thing you can do is be confident that you can drive and not stress out over this little failure. You know what to do at a four way intersection now. The worst thing you can do is worry...that'll make you tense up and make more mistakes. You will pass your test! Keep telling yourself that :)

Practice makes perfect. Most everyone fails their first test..now the second time you will know how it works and now what to expect from your test person.

Your normal no worries. You'll pass next time.

Well, don't worry about it. You know what you did wrong on the first one, so don't do it again. The next one will have you a little less stressed out. You'll be fine on the next one. Drive safe --dude

Probably more practice driving under supervision would most likely improve your driving and your confidence in the the task. Then you will more likely pass your exam next time.
