bruising is caused by broken blood vessels and blood leaking out into the tissue. As the blood is broken down, hemoglobin is converted to biliverdin (green color) and then to bilirubin, which is yelllow. This is why bruises change color as they heal.

A bruise is blood under the skin. When it turns yellow it is showing the age of the bruise. That happens in 5-10 days when the iron is absorbed back into the body.

When you bruise cappilaries( tiny blood vessles) rupture. The bruise can be red at first and gradually go from the black and blue colors to the yellowing as the bruise is in the the later stages of healing. Find more about bruises by going to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruises

It's a bruise - it will go away. Just stop punching each other and you won't get them. BTW, bruises happen when you break the small capillaries (tiny veins) and a small amount of blood is released into the muscles and tissues around the site. Once the blood is reabsorbed, the bruise and tenderness go away.

it is a part of the healing process involving bruises, it represents an increase of plasma protiens in the area which work to carry off the old blood collected under the skin from the trauma that caused the bruise.
