Actually...Why do we care wht other people think? If our polish is chipped and they don't like it, then don't look at it...Some of us may not have time to redo our nails everytime they chip.

I think chipped fingernail polish looks tacky. It looks like you don't care about your fingernails or toenails. It especially looks bad if you're wearing darker colors. It doesn't take that long to quickly add another coat or cover the chipped part up. I'd definitely say it is a no-no.

Oh no definitely no use a single coat of a light colored polish and wait for several minutes then use a top coat. If they both completely dry before you do anything the polish lasts longer, and with the lighter polishes you notice less if it gets chipped.

I think it’s a no-no, especially with dark polish- makes you look sloppy and that you don’t care (just like if you had a run in hose or a hole in a sweater.) If you cannot get a new manicure then take the same color and dab it on the spot where you had a chip, then finish with the top coat.

depends on how chipped and what colour it is. a dark colour may not be so bad actually, but a light one, like say, on a french manicure, looks really bad cuz from far away it looks like distorted fingers. don't let it get too crazy though. too much chipped off looks like really low maintenance and not the casual, laid back, kinda carefree look some chipped polish can pull off. don't let it stay chipped for too long, eventually you'll want to just take it off and re-paint.

Make nails clean and dry
do one coat of Orly "Bonder " base coat
two coats of ANY polish
one or two coats of Seche Vite, Quick Dry Top Coat
You should have much less problems with chipping.
Add a fresh coat of Seche Vite every other day and you will have even fewer problems.

i say it's fine! Actually, I find it quite impossible to NOT have chipped polish unless of course you're a celebrity who gets her nails done daily, and has an assistant on hand to fix her chips the moment they happen.

apply a clear coat of nail varnish every two to three days to prevent chipping (but don't add loads of layers; but a new coat of colour on after 2/3 weeks!)

Not cool -- tacky and sloppy. Not sure how this "trend" got started, but it's a bad one. I'd avoid it.
