It depends on why it squeaks. There's usually a not-good reason for noises.
An easy way to cover up the underlying problem is to spray belt conditioner on the belt. It will add traction to the belt, but if the problem is being caused by failing components, you're just gonna wind up stuck on the side of the road one day.
I'm not at all familiar with the engine in a 97 Fiesta, but I'm guessing that it doesn't use a serpentine belt and that you have at least 2 or 3 separate belts to run various things. Changing those out is relatively easy, but serpentine belts tend to be a bit more of a challenge and worth paying a greasemonkey to do.

Alternator drive belt yes. Loosen the alternator, lever it so that the belt has a small amount of play (do not overtighten as this will knacker the alternator bearings), tighten the alternator. If it has sqeaked a lot then the belt will need replacing and possibly the alternator pulley too, due to the 'polishing' effect of the two slipping past each other.

Assuming fan belt, yes you can. Just loosen alternator mounting and `adjustable` mounting bolts then pull the alternator towards you to tighten the belt. Lock the adjustable mounting bolt, while under tension, then the main alternator mounting bolt, job done.

if the belt is below the outer edge of the pully it's worn out and needs replacing (v belts drive on the sides of the belt) ajustment is carried out by slackening the altenor bolts retensioning the belt and tightening the bolts.
