Firstly I find this question offensive.

Secondly they take it off one finger so that the oxygen monitor will work.

It depends on the color of the nail polish. If they put the pulse oximetry on your finger (device that helps monitor your pulse and oxygen levels) dark colors will interfere and not give an accurate reading. Lighter colors don't seem to interfere but it still depends on the doctors/nurses caring for you.

I'm an EMT and we use these in the ambulance. We've had to take the polish off patients before so our pulse ox would work correctly.

no it is not true i have had 2 c-section and i always wear polish on my toes and fingers but the reason they do say that for some sugery is because they look at your fingers and toes to see if they have good oxygen level, if you have finger nail polish or toe then they cant tell just by looking at them, the oxygen level in your body but normally now they put a little machine on your finger or toe to read the oxygen level anyway

You take off nail polish so that they can see your bare fingernails. This is a key indicator on oxygen levels. Not all hospitals require bare fingernails, and if you're having an emergency C-Section they're not going to take the time to do this step.

Yes- also all piercings must be removed.. you have to tell them if you have any tattoos and they will make u shave from navel to .....well lets just say bald eagle

best do it urself at home first or they will just make u look like a skunk!

-They take these precautions because you are going to be split wide open.. they want no distractions or disasters- if you accidently reach down you will have put ur hands (nailpolish chips off sometimes) inside ur well.. .insides,..

I had emergency and I had to be strapped to a metal table with my arms straight out like I was being crucified on a cross... it was painful to have my arms stuck straight level with my back for hours... .. makes ya wonder... wow
\

Good luck and I hope you have a wonderful experience and recovery

its not just the c section
patient are asked to remove the nail polish for every major operation, the reason behind it is , Hb condition of body can be judged by seeing the nails , if the colur is pale blood can be tranfused, if its pink then it indicates good level of hemaglobin (Hb)
it is also good to cut down the nails , if you have big nails, small clean nails are consider as hygenic

Yes you have to remove it and any false nails and they will do it if emergency section , they did with me from a couple of fingers and toes. Its the only way they can check the blood flow to your limbs , if you press the finger or toenails you will see they go white and when you release they should go back to pink again , if not this is a sign of poor circulation and blood flow. Best not to wear any.

I had always heard that they take all nail polish off, but when I had my C-section, they left it on. When I asked if they were going to take it off they laughed and asked me why I thought that.

They used to require it. Nail bed color is an indicator of oxygen levels. Now we have pulse oximeters. Get a manicure, they won't take it off. Best of luck to you.

yeah. for two reasons. i agree with what they said befor. its a clear indication of oxeygen levels in your system. also, some one said something to me about chipped and chipping nailpoish being hazard, so its probably a good idea not to have any anyway. also. whats the point of having nailpolish on when ur in the hospital having your baby anyway! lol.

i hope this helped
