Also I have that AVG trail I have viruses in the vault what do I do with them so they don't get out? Does it hurt to leave them in the vault?

You can leave the viruses in the vault or delete them either way. As for defrag it will slow your machine down whilst it is running but once it has finished your computer should run slightly better and faster when loading programs. It just puts your files into order basically so it can access them faster.

First, you need to get AVG version 7.5. It's the latest full free version and replaces 7.1 that was in effect until early this year. Version 7.5 will install over what you already have, so leave the viruses in the vault. You can delete them later if you choose.

As to defragging, you should not be doing anything on your computer while it is defragging the hard drive. It will run much better after defragging, which just moves files around to make them more accessible by the computer's memory.

It is safe to keep them in the vault yes but if your virus software is only a trial you must remove the files befor it expires, if you are running AVG newer version you will need to clear all the infected files before your trile ends.

A disk defragment wont slow down your PC at all infact its good to defragment your harddisk every now and then.

You shouldnt be running the computer when its defragging anyway.
Yes, it will slow it down, but it will also never finish if youre writing to the hdd.
