The MIB agents are all called Agent Jay etc, but I was wondering if they get their name from the first letter of their actual surname, the first letter of their actual first name, or if it's just random.

They get it from their first names. Agent Kay's name is Kevin and Agent Jay is something like James but I can't remember that.

Its from their first name because Will Smith's name was james in the movie. By the way, his name is Agent J (not Jay).

1 thing I wondered though. They go by their first letter of first name. But there were obviously more than 26 agents. I bet it got awful confusing with repeated letters.

I think it's from their first initial, and i'd imagine that they have far more than 26 agents at any given time, so they also use the equivalent leter form other alphabets as well. Zed is what Candians call what we americans call Zee(why? i have know idea.)
J was James before he was recruited
