Is that a custom that you want to continue? I mean when did the custom of celebrateing mothers day come from?
What is the origin of the practice of setting aside a day to honor mothers?
The Encyclopædia Britannica says: “A festival derived from the custom of mother worship in ancient Greece. Formal mother worship, with ceremonies to Cybele, or Rhea, the Great Mother of the Gods, were performed on the Ides of March throughout Asia Minor.”—
Should we keep these customs given to us by pagans? Isn't the Christian religion a composite of all these pagan customs?

Flowers are the best choice because they do not last long and they do not collect dust but they certainly put a smile on any mother;s face.

Mine will receive a 3 tier planter for her deck. I may throw in a flat of flowers for her to put in them as well.
