My first answer is a dollar. Although byte is right, too.
We had a cheer at my high school:
2 bits, 4 bits, 6 bits a dollar
All for Northwest stand up and holler!

It's according to what you are referring to. 2 bits is $.25
but if you have 8 bits, they could be what goes in a drill. (drill bits)
