I have been struggling along with a 5kg max load washing machine, for a family of 6, for several years and have finally decided to treat myself to a large load washing machine. Trouble is, I can't decide which one would be best for me as there is not a lot of information or any reviews on them, so i wondered if anyone had any personal experience of using one and could point out any good or bad points for the one they have.

It would also be useful to know how long the main cycles last. Any feedback at all would really be appreciated.

Thanks.

WHICH have recently covered this very topic so to read the report, go to the local Library.
I have a LG direct drive 7.5kg washer and I am very impressed with it. It is very quiet when washing but can be slightly noisy at full spin of 1600rpm.
A 40c wash lasts about an hour, whites is longest at hour and half. There is a fast wash facility if clothes are not really dirty just sweaty.
They have brought out a 8kg one as well as one that steams clothes clean. You may have seen it, it is black. Very smart.
The other manufacturers who are making large drum machines are AEG,SIEMENS and MIELE, very good quality and guaranteed 10 years but close on a £1000. The LG is cheaper but still good.

I bought a Hoover "Nextra" from Curry's. It is a 7.5kg washer and has a great energy saving mode. I have had it now for about a year and it has been great, washed big duvee's and everything in it. It washes in next to no time and is pretty silent even on top spin which is 1600rpm. I would not recommend you buy the extra protection plan because they are a waste of money. You are protected under the warranty for twelve months anyway, and even after this time if the fault is the manufacturer's they will fix it. I did not pay that much for the machine and am very happy with it.
