You can buy them anytime you like, and while they may ask question, you are simply purchasing a good. Unless the place just really gets a strange vibe, I don't think they can even refuse to sell one to you. Actually many people with terminal illnesses buy everything including the casket and ceremony while they are still able to make the arrangements themselves.

If you went to funeral palor to buy one, they would want to hold the funeral there. They handle the transporation and everything with the casket, so I doubt they would let you just come in and take one home.

lots of people do it ahead of time to save the family the pain of it when the time comes, sure you can......they will be only too happy to take your money.
