In the US, the pill is available over-the-counter (although you do have to ask the pharmacist for it rather than picking it up off the shelf) if you are over 18. They cost around $35-60 at most pharmacies, but you can usually get them for more like $25 if you go to Planned Parenthood. Keep in mind that many pharmacies refuse to stock or dispense E.C (depending on state laws that permit pharmacists to refuse to dispense medications that they find unethical) so start shopping now.
The earlier you take the pill, the better... if you can seriously take it the morning after, that's the ideal situation. The maximum effectiveness is within 3 days of unprotected intercourse, with some limited effectiveness as much as five days after.

morning after pill is prescribed by your gynecologist or your physician and she/he will determine how long you should take it. normally anywhere from 1-3 days after intercourse. as far cost, that depends on your health insurance and also if it's generic. it's normally lower if it's generic, but if it's a brand name then it is a little costly. The way to tell is the doctor will sign substitution permited(generic) or written as dispense(brand name)

The cost varies, and you have about 72 hours after unprotected sex to use it. The sooner you take it, the better the chances are that it'll work.
