Male Guppies are slimmer and more colorful than females. A pregnant female Guppies has a dark spot on the rear part of her abdomen. This spot is called a gravid spot.
A male Guppy has a modified fin called a gonopodium that a female does not have. Click here to go to the web page about Swordtails where you can see pictures that show the difference between the fins of male and a female Swordtails. Male and female Guppies have this same difference in their fins.

Male guppies are far more colorful than females. They also have longer fins, especially the tails. If your fish has a flowing tail and good color on it's body, you have a male. If it's sort of olive, a bit drab, and only has some color on its tail, and if the tail is short, you have a female. If you got the fish at PetCo or Petsmart, or most fish stores, there's a very good chance it's a male.
Those places tend to separate sexes to avoid unwanted breeding. A tank full of male guppies is much more attractive than a tank full of females.

It's easiest to identify if you happen to have both genders in your tank. However, along the lines of the ignoramus who asked, "Does it have a penis," the dimorphism for guppies is actually where you might expect a hypothetical fish penis to be if such a thing existed. The males have an enlargement at the rear of bottom fin(s) in front of their anus.

on the bottom near the anus of the guppy there is a fin only the males have...it kind of looks like it is folded up under them..the female just has a regular fanned out fin...males tend to be more fancy and longer tail.....anything else you need to kno?

The females are usually grey or tan clearish colour. The males also have fancier tails and are skinnier. I'm pretty sure your fish is a male guppy.

IF YOUR GUPPY LAYS EGGS IT SURELY IS A FEMALE, IF NOT CERTAINLY A MALE. GO AND SEARCH FOR SMALL EGGS IN THE TANK.

If it just has a small amount of color on its tail and none anywhere else (just a greyish color) than it probably is a female. If it has more color than it is probably a male. Also the males are smaller than the females.
