Is there any Gas/Electric meter readers out there? is it a good job & is it worth doing?

Any useful info would be greatly appreciated. I've just received an application from METER-U agency and wondered if i should go-ahead.

My husband did it for a few years when we were first married.. It was a decent job. I didn't like the fact that the older meters were INSIDE customers homes and some customers were pretty ODD... It paid the bills and he worked his way up..
