I think the name is precious and unique. I may be pregnant, and I feel I will have a girl if I am-should I name her Samandra Malaysia?

The whole world is struggling with widespread radical Islam now and the problem is not about to get better. Malaysia is a Muslim country. You want to name your child the name of a country that may be our enemy in the near future? Why not just give her a girl's name? Even if it's made up. Or at least that of a country that is friendly to us.

Does the name have significance or do you simply just like it?

My wife is pregnant and that name wouldn't be one of our choices but naming a child is different for everyone. Some people want to honor another family member or friend by naming their child after them. Some people want a common "strong" name, like William for example. Some people want a trendy name like Destiny for a little girl and some people want unique/exotic names that no one else will have. I'm pretty sure your daughter will never come across another Samandra Malaysia.

P.S. Don’t forget your child has to live with this name and go through school and kids can be mean. Just something to think about before choosing a name.

Hi there,

Personally I find it pretty odd why you would name your daughter after a country? Does it have some specific connotations or did you just randomly think it up? (you do know that Malaysia is a country in South East Asia right?)

If you are naming her Samandra Malaysia because she was conceived in Malaysia or something, then I guess that's alright. Otherwise... I'm not so sure. Sorry.

No, I wouldn't name my child Samandra Malaysia but you can't worry about what other people think of the name -- any name that you select. You have to pick a name you feel is right for your child.

Also, don't tell any friends or loved ones your name choice until it's on the birth certificate because even friends and family can pick apart ANY name. Trust me on this. We made the mistake of telling my mother-in-law what we wanted our child's middle name to be. Needless to say, he has a completely different middle name because my mother-in-law hated it and made a big deal about it. After the baby comes, no one has the heart to do that anymore!!

Samandra has a nice sound to it and is very pretty -- though definetly uncommon. I would stray away from Malaysia for a middle name though. My first thought was the same as someone else's on here... it sounds like a disease!

Good luck! I give you praise for trying to come up with something original.

I quite like Samandra, it's more interesting than the typical Samantha...

At the risk of sounding rude, I'm not all that keen on place names for babies, like Malaysia for example, or Paris etc... I always feel they are a bit uninventive.

(My baby girl is going to be called Encarnación after my mother in law who died not long before I found out I was pregnant, middle name Nadia which means luck in Hebrew. I'm 31 weeks.)

Good luck and congrats if you are pregnant!

:-)

Different, but reminds me of a Salamander (Lizard), and the country Malaysia...or having Malaria. Maybe you could try a first name that sounds similar to Samandra, like Samantha, or Sandra. And to the lady who wants to name her daughter Encarnacion...WHY? Is she the reincarnation of your Mother-in-law? I know the choice is yours, but it is a horrible stigma to stick on your child it's entire life. All mothers should think way ahead when choosing a baby's name! Because that kid is stuck with it. Good luck to you!

These people will not name their daughters Samandra MALAYSIA of course, because they are not Malaysian!! lol

Well go on,if you think she will make you proud with that name go on.

If you are a Malaysian:Jangan tanya orang2 yang begitu bodoh tentang negara kita.

So you should ask in the 'Malaysia' section.

Personally I don't, but you should name your baby something that you feel is unique and will fit your child as they grow into adulthood. When selecting a baby name, imagine how the name will sound as it is announced at graduation, or if he/she were to be a lawyer and had to announce themselves in court.

Best of Luck To You

I personally would not name my daughter that. However, that is me and you are you. If you like the name you shouldn't let anyone influence your desicion. If you are pregnant, then it's time that you start making you own choices and don't worry about what other people think!! Good Luck!!
