It is not an exact science, what about premature babies we know they were scheduled for 9 months but were born sooner. Not everyone has an exact 28 day cycle, and then the egg can be in the tube for about 2 days before fertilization. I had one baby 4 weeks late and another 2 weeks late. The early schedule example heart developed at week -- and then lungs week -- etc but the last few weeks are just growing and getting ready for the outside world.

If only babies actually arrived on that date, 5 days really isnt going to make much of a difference either way. Most of the books I have read have said that 50% of babies come two weeks before due date, and 50% of babies come two weeks after the date. They just come when they are ready

No, back in the old days, they would let babies go over by a week or more. That doesn't change the ovulation date. It's just that some babies don't want to come out. A due date it just a predictor.

Like the others have said, its just an estimated date.
First time mothers are more likely to go over their due dates by 3-7 days than mothers on their second, third, or more go arounds. I was just reading about this the other day, but I don't recall what pregnancy site it was.

Someone just forgot to tell the little one the schedule and the baby came out when they were good and ready. =-) Everyone is not the same, every pregnancy is not the same, and yet the Estimated Delivery Date is always set at 40 weeks after the LMP!!! It just gives the doctor an idea.

No. Babies come when the want to come. Once they are mature enough to come into this world. They can be born 4 weeks before your due date or 2 weeks after your due date.

No. Due dates are just estimates. 5 days past the due date is not late. Human gestation does not have an exact amount of days or weeks.

NO- some babies just stay in the womb longer than others. That is why it is an EDD- Estimated Due Date.
