We will be travelling to WDW in 2008, and I read about the Pal Mickey, it tells you about the attractions and where characters are. We will be travelling with two children ages 8 and 10, I am worried that my eight year daughter will want to bolt out of every line to go and see the different characters (ie "I hear that Belle is in France")
What have your experiences been?
I also see them listed on EBay, should I purchase one or wait till we get there? What is the cost new, and how often would more updated versions be available?

Now, I work at WDW and I've had the opportunity to explore the park with a Pal Mickey and had a wonderful time. Actually, a friend of mine bought one and there were no children in our group and we thought it was one of the most entertaining things about our day. As for your fear of your children bolting out of lines, the updates that Micky gives are related to the area that you're in at the time. For example, if you're waiting on line for Soarin', it's going to have all sorts of trivia about that ride and the Land pavilion. It's not going to tell you about character greetings across the park.

Children are in lines all the time at school. My two have never had a problem staying in line for a ride at Disney. Use a fastpass when you can. That helps a lot. Also, get into the park early and head into the interior, working your way back out. And it sounds silly, but strategize about where you want to go. You might plan on hitting the more popular rides first.
As far as Pal Mickey, we don't have one, and now that you've asked this question, I don't remember seeing anyone with one. Of course, that doesn't mean anything. I was probably looking at other things. If no one used them, they wouldn't be selling them.
You're starting early doing your research. Good for you and have a great trip!
