The experiment you made is an example of conversion of matter from one form to another form means, converting solid water (ice) to liquid water (water). But rain is somewhat different from this. The water gets evaporated from water sources (seas, rivers, lakes, ponds etc.) in summer due to the Sun's heat. It goes up because heated gases are lighter in weight. Then as it goes upwards, it becomes cooler and at one extent, it again becomes water droplets. When the water droplets in the clouds (actually clouds are water vapour) become heavier, then they drop as rain. In some areas, they become so cooler that they drop as snow flakes. In your experiment you created a situation which was reverse to the actual rain. You melted ice cubes and formed water droplets and in actual rain, water vapours becomes cooler and forms water droplets. Hope you have understood the difference.
