is there a special way i should clean the diamonds in my ring?

any rules like taking it off when i wash my hands? what about preserving the shine or anything?

You can clean diamonds with anything you want to. They are very tough stones & will not fade like other precious stones in harsh jewelry cleaners. Jeweler's usually recommend cleaning your jewelry in warm water with dishwasher detergent (like Dawn). Scrub with a soft brush then rinse. As far as being concerned about the shine...don't worry about your diamonds losing brilliance. Just worry about your setting. That's the only thing that will change over time. The gold/silver/platinum will eventually scratch and lose it's shine like it once had when it's new. There's really nothing you can do to prevent it. Your diamonds may need to be taken out of it's mounting and professionally cleaned by a jeweler every once in awhile to clean the whole stone & get the places the brush couldn't get to. But this would only need to be done every 7 years or so. Hope this helps!

The best thing I use to clean my antique engagement ring, is jewelry cleaner from a jewelry store, and an old tooth brush. It doesn't cost much and boy dose it clean and shine the diamond and white gold . . .makes it just breathtaking. One major note to this, do not, I repeat do not use diamond, and or regular jewelry cleaner on pearls you need to ask them for a cleaner just for pearls. If you don't want to buy jewelry cleaner, just an old tooth brush and a little dish soap works pretty good too just not as good as the jewelry cleaner

As far as taking it off to wash your hands, do not do that by the sink, can go bye bye down the drain. Take it off and put them in a jewelry box or some where you'll remember. You don't want to put it somewhere safe and forget where.
