Say you had a close friend (opposite gender) you knew 10 years ago in high school, and had wanted to contact her to keep in touch, but you forgot to get her contact info before graduating, which you always regretted. But then recently you finally came across a possible phone number for her on the Internet.

Would it be considered appropriate to try to call her and catch up on how things are doing for her currently? (If OK, what could I say so she wouldn't think I was being I being strange or anything like that, since I am genuinely just interested in catching up and with good intentions?) I guess it might have been a little easier/informal if I had an e-mail address rather than a phone number, but unfortnuately the phone number is all the info I currently have. Or should I just leave things in the past and let it go?

It is appropriate. Give it a try.... you have nothing to lose. Either she is excited and you keep in touch from hereon, or nothing comes of it... and it fades out. You'll never know unless you call. Say that you are not sure if you have the right number or not, but that you are looking for so-and-so.... that you both went to the same h.s. 10 years ago, but lost touch. If you get her... then say hi... this is so-and-so.... do you remember me? we were blah-blah-blah.... and before you know it, you'll be catching up with her... if you do get her. Worst is that you don't get her. Just remember that if you get her, 10 years have elapsed, and so things are different now because so much can happen in 10 years... marriage, kids, divorce.... oh, plus you both are 10 years older now! :o) Good luck!

I say go for what could it hurt, I'm in a similar situation myself. You can never have friends like you did in high school. I've often been curious about how the people I went to school with are.

If you're really interested in catching up with her..just call...i bet she'll be excited to hear from you, just as much as you are while thinking about talking to her...
