I'm attending a filipino/jewish wedding in the summer and need to know what is the best way to wear the barong. Is it okay to wear light colored pants and light colored shoes since it's a morning wedding? Or should I wear black pants and black shoes. Thanks!

No, actually they're both in med school still. That's how they met. West coast filam and east coast jewish. I do think the guy is a couple months younger though.

To best showcase the intricate fabric and embroidery:
1. please wear plain white shirt underneath, a long-sleeve undershirt is even more visually pleasing -it may be summer but it certainly looks better in the photograph; (do check Google- Images, compare the difference)
2. please keep accessories to a minimum -if you must, a watch and a ring is all that is necessary;
3. please wear clean, crisply ironed black dress pants;
4. please pair these with black dress socks and polished black shoes;
5. most importantly, please maintain good posture and smile.
Mazel tov (congratulations) to the couple!

I think it is a personal preference. Generally, people wear dark slacks with dark shoes and a white camisa de chino underneath the Barong, but if you can pull off something different like light-colored pants and shoes, go for it!
Fashion is self-expression. There are no real rules, but the rules you set on yourself. I think the brave who dare step out of the established cultural boxes are the trailblazers of this world!
I hope the Jewish/Filipino couple who wed are still happily in love. We also need to stop looking down on mixed relationships. Let people be happy with whatever choices they make in their lives :)

Wearing a Barong to a wedding/funeral is the equilavelent of formal attire here. Black pants and shoes are the standard. Also don't forget to wear a white t shirt underneith the Barong.

day or night, it is always appropriate to wear black pants and shoes. NEVER wear colored undershirts! NEVER put those colored "neckties" on barongs! NEVER buy barong made with synthetic fiber! If you want to invest in a good quality barong, make sure it's made out of piña (pronounced "peenya") and hand embroidered or if you want a cheaper version, jusi (pronounced "hoo-see") is a great alternative. It will cost a fraction of the piña version.

wear a plain white t-shirt underneath your barong and a black pants, black socks, black shoes with it. a big no no is to wear a light or cream colored pants with your barong. and also, many make a mistake by wearing white socks with black shoes.

black pants & shoes is correct way, then either a WHITE t.shirt, or a white singlet shortsleeved version {like a t.shirt would} i know married to a Philippina. then later rip of your Barong after reception formalities are over, observe what OTHER phlippino guys are doing, then do exactly what they do the Barong gets extremely annoying after awhile, trust me!! you will soon find that out too!!

Are you a guest? Then light colored pants and shoes are fine. If you're in the bridal party, ask the groom what he wants you to wear. But I've never seen a barong with black pants and black shoes before.
