Keep in mind, while you are right, and a lot of people in the music industry are living better than us because of album sales and music concerts, not all music artists are rich and famous, there are A LOT of underground, indie, and other types of music groups that aren't rich, and make a living off merchandise and album sales.

I'm guilty. I've been downloading since the original Napster...
The artists (at least the big famous ones) don't need the $15 per cd, since they already sell a million copies or so... The little local bands, etc. don't usually make it to limewire or any other filesharing site as easily.
