There are more scientists defending astrology than defending "global warming," but liberals simply announce that the debate has been resolved in their favor and demand that we shut down all production. I guess they will always have their solar heated houses in Malibu where cutting production won't affect them. Arent these the same 70's liberals who said we are all going to die from "global cooling"?

Global warming is not man made. We may be contributing to it, but so do all living things. If co2 is a grrenhouse gas, then merely breathing makes you a contributor. All humans and animals contribute in this way. Also, methan is a gashouse gas. Use your imagination and you will figure out how we contribute that way. Global warming is caused by greehouse gases trapping heat from variations in fluxuations on the sun (i.e. sunspots). It had happened before on this planet, and it will happen again. Carbon emissions and all that jazz, very small contributors. No need to get all in a ruckus.

Don't get me wrong, energy conservation is a wonderful thing, but I am not going to live my life worried about how I can cut energy and reduce emissions, so if I want to buy a Mustang v8 gas guzzler over a Prius, so be it. Life is too short anyway, just enjoy it!

P.S. - I did buy the Mustang v8 over the Prius over a year ago and have thouroughly enjoyed every gas guzzling, carbon emitting, noise polluting mile!

Oh absolutely. CO2 is a major cause of greenhouse gas. There are 6 Billion people on this planet that never stop breathing all day. Every time they exhale they give off CO2. And everything we do has as a byproduct CO2. So yes humans are a major cause of global warming.

As a side note I heard on some news program the polar ice caps are shrinking-- On Mars. We need to get all the liberals sent to Mars so they can find out what's going on and stop the warming there. Sounds like a great job for them don't you think?

I'm no liberal and I don't favor anything too drastic or crazy in terms of reform. But the science appears universal. Yes global climate change is real and it is happening. (Climate change is more accurate than global warming because while most places will get warmer, some will actually get cooler.) Yes it is happening naturally but we humans are rapidly escalating the process. That's pretty much the end of the story.

But even if you hate liberals so much that you don't believe the science from all around the globe, do you love America enough to think green? For when Americans drive gas guzzling cars and waste energy in other ways, you are basically just writing out a check to Bin Laden types for the next 9/11. It's true when it is said, we are funding both sides of the war on terror. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to stop doing that? Wouldn't it be nice to deal with Middle Eastern tyrants on our own terms? If Brazil can be totally self-sufficient in terms of oil and gasoline, why can't we even try?

I'm a liberal, but I also study science and astronomy.

Volcanoes spew more greenhouses gasses in one eruption than all the humans combined.

The Earth is constantly in a cycle of cool then warm. We have an ice age every 20,000 years and also have a warming trend every 20,000 years. This is caused by two things: 1.) As the Earth spins, the axis rotates or wobbles just like the motion of a spinning top. 2.) Our orbit is not static or perfectly round, it actually changes bringing our planet closer to the Sun at regular intervals.

If greenhouse gasses were to build up, they would form more cloud cover. Increased cloud cover would block more of the Sun's rays, essentially balancing out the climate changes.

Increased CO2 would make all vegetation on the Earth bigger and more dense. This increase in vegetation would absorb more CO2 and replace it with oxygen. Once again balancing the atmosphere.

You sound like an ignorant creationist attacking evolution. Do you imagine scientific truth is a matter of public opinion? The truth is there are absolutely NO credible scientists defending astrology and there are absolutely NO credible scientists attacking global warming. Whether any scientist is a political liberal or an arch-conservative has no bearing whatsoever on the nature of any scientific truth. (A person who allows his politics to influence his conclusions is simply NOT a scientist.)

For the same reasons, just because a large majority of Americans believe God is a real phenomenon does not make His existence a scientific fact. Faith is one thing and Science is another. People who imagine one is a substitute for the other always make fools of themselves.

If you like to bait liberals, try reading Anne Coulter. She gets my goat every time and does it with class (usually). You'll notice she never makes the mistake of saying something is true when it's not.....

Good! You remember that prediction from the 70"s! I was beginning to think I was the only one. It's lonely, huh. Human beings are far too insignificant in the total universal scheme, though they arrogantly disagree, to influence the direction of the climate. The earth and warmed and cooled in cycles throughout it's history. We're heading into another cycle and everyone is panicking, as we all like to do. Herds of animals panic facing danger, whether it's real or imagined.
There! Is everyone up in arms over this answer now?

not me the global temperature has been shifting from one end of the scale to the other since the beginning of time the proof is there for all (but the blind) too see what with the four ice ages and all of that was way before the industrial revolution. The ozone also builds up and breaks down without any help from us. It always has and it always will well until the day the sun swallows us up.

Nope.......They've been monitoring the global temp for maybe 50 years.
That's like monitoring a child's growth for 10 years and based on the fact that he grew 4 feet in that period, projecting that he will be 12 feet by the time he's 30.

Global temperature has shifted from the beginning of time from temperate to ice age and back. It's just going through another small adjustment.

from my understanding, one volcano produces more "global warming" effects than humans ever have in our history. I do believe that we should take care of the place we are living and not be irresponsible, but I believe that the whole global warming thing is just grasping at straws. I have not met one truly intelligent person that believes that load of hooey!
These are the same people that make fun of the religious extremists crying that the end of the world is such and such a date- it is always changing to suit the times- they make fun but are doing the same thing- changing the "facts" to get everyone up in arms and leaning their way to suit their own agenda for the time

I believe in global warming. But it's sheer arrogance to think that humanity is responsible. On the geological scale of time, we've only been measuring and recording weather for a brief moment. There is plenty of evidence of warming and cooling trends (ice ages anyone?) in the history of the earth. We're just in one of those warming trends right now. NASA just released a study about Mars and the other planets warming steadily over the past few years due to solar activity. Gonna have to sweat it out.
