I don't know but I love the inventive words people sometimes come up with! I'm going to use "injirious" in a sentence today just to bug some people.

Almost everyone has swallowed a piece of gum at some point. But very few people ever need to see a doctor because of it.

Chewing gum is made up of the gum itself (called gum resin), preservatives, flavorings, and sweeteners. The human body is unable to digest the gum resin. But swallowed gum does not stay in the stomach or cause intestinal problems. That's because our bodies move most materials that can't be digested (like gum) through the digestive system and out of our bodies in a bowel movement.

In rare cases, swallowing a large mass of gum, or many small pieces of gum over a short period of time, can block the digestive tract. Blockages in the digestive system are most likely to happen when gum is swallowed along with other indigestible things (like sunflower seed shells).

Although people cannot digest gum resin, they can digest the things that have been added to chewing gum, such as sweeteners or even medications (think of the nicotine gum used by people trying to quit smoking). The body absorbs these just through the act of chewing. This is where chewing gum can affect a person's health: When a person chews a lot of sugary gum, the calories can add up.

as far as i know chewing gum isn't going to harm you.. actually chewing gum was invented as an exercise for the mouth. As for swallowing gum it takes the same amount of time as it would to digest other food. The old myths such as it'll take 7 years and all your insides will be stuck together are made up to scared kids and others into not swallowing gum .. i wouldn't suggested swallowing gum but it wont harm you to.

All I can think is maybe jaw soreness and tooth decay, if your favorite gum of choice is sugary. So, stick to sugar-free gum and it can actually be a good thing. The build-up of saliva can help clean your teeth in-between brushing after you eat. And the chewing motion can be good for exercising the jaw, so actually jaw soreness, though it may be an annoyance isn't technically a bad thing.

No that's not true ! You could have some "burping" problems, because chewing gum allot, you tend to swallow air.Chewing a high sugar content gum, isn't good for your teeth,so you may opt to go with the sugar-free. Take care. SW RNP

actually its not a big deal, try not to swallow yuor gum, but it does not endanger your health. but be careful of chewing hard gum alot because the little bones betweeb your upper and lower jaw could eventually get grinded apart and you would never be able to chew ice, or gum again.

well if you chew bubblicious then you are sure to get cavities. but if you chew sugarless gum after meals then it helps you to digest your food better. how? well when you chew you create saliva, so all that extra saliva helps break down the food better than if you didn't have anything in your mouth. but as for other harmful effects of chewing gum, I don't think there are any.

Whenever I see someone chewing gum, I think: Low class. Even if they're fairly well-off and have never had money problems, there's just something about that chewing action that looks very unconscious.
