Plastic sheeting will work. Or you can try putting some montmorillonite clay around it. Montmorillonite clay will swell when soaked with water and it won't allow water to pass through it. Purdue University uses it to separate its different agricultural test plots so water from one plot won't contaminate water in another plot.
