My husband likes to have beer at night to relax ... if he has beer in his system when we have sex, will that affect our unborn baby? (22 weeks pregnant).

he also takes vicodin on occasion for an existing back injury from snowboarding .. will the vicodin in his system affect the baby? or get into the baby's system?

*it's probably a silly question ... but I really don't know the answer.

thanks!

Thanks everyone who has answered so far .. you've helped put my mind at ease! :)
I assure you .. I would never taken any substance of any kind while pregnant. I'm high on life :)
I haven't even had caffeine since I found out I was pregnant. I second guess my every move.
This little baby is my world :)

If the vicodin was in his system when conception took place, then your baby could be at risk. However, a very low risk. Your husbands' drinking will not effect the baby either due to he has no connection as this point with your baby's blood stream. Your baby can only be damaged by what you put in your body. There is an excellent book called, "What to expect when you are expecting", this will give you step by step instructions on what is going on with your baby and your body during your pregnancy. You should relax and take good care of yourself and everything will be just fine. Thank you and good luck.

dont worry it wont affect the baby. your baby is protected by your uterus and even if the vicodin or beer transferred to his semen it cant get to the baby. if you take the vicodin or drink the beer then it will affect the baby. so you dont have anything to worry about.

No, it won't affect your baby. Now if you were to drink beer or take any medicine then the baby would be effected by it, but with your husband only doing it then your baby is not harmed.

About the only way is if he gets drunk and beats you up. Having a beer and then sex will not affect your unborn child. Same with Vicodin.

dont worry at all, your cervix is sealed shut by a mucus plug which stops semen and infections from reaching your baby inside your uterus.
also the baby is inside of the amniotic sac.
congrats and good luck

No, its not going to hurt the baby, theres no way anything from your husband can get to your baby, it is in your uterus and protected.

I really don't think so, but, to set your mind at ease, consult a doctor. No, it is not a silly question.
