Get her involved with activities that will take her mind off it, she could volunteer at the local animal shelter, nursing home, hospital or library. Tell her she can help herself by helping others. And suggest that she go the old fashioned route and send cards and letters to her daughter to keep in touch. She could pick up cute cards at the local dollar store that say "thinking of you", etc. And perhaps she could start a little "bank" (just a jar to drop her change into) to save for a visit either by her daughter to her or for her to go see her daughter. Good luck to her and God Bless you for being there for her.

Call her up or go over and ask her to hang out. If the daughter does not live too far away maybe you could plan a surprise road trip (plan with her daughter) to visit the daughter or even plan a meal. I know that scrap books and memory books are really big and popular now adays and you could make one for her.

Maybe the two of you could join an art class or a group together to keep her mind off of missing her daughter.

Good luck

Tell her that maybe her and her daughter just needed some space. Also tell her that sooner or later, her daughter will come to her sences and move back in, because although they are going through some rough times, her daughter still loves her.

Be there for her, talk with her. Sometimes you can't do anything but be there. Do go out with her, maybe you two can find a hobby or help her find one that will belp occupy her time.
