Get real! I don't even think they should read the bible. Let them grow up before becoming indoctrinated.

I think if you want to live in peace and harmony it would be a good idea. Too little is known about Islam. Some thinks it preaches violence others do not.
Since it is the fastest growing religion and generally schools promote atheism by intolerance of religion, it might be best to kill two birds with one stone. Expose kids to some form of religion that is impacting their life most and exposed them to the fact that atheism is a rarity and not promoted by their government.
By blocking different concepts of society from children is a form of "teaching" and I believe the government has been preaching it's views in their school system long enough that children now need to learn the majority of the world is religious and not the opposite.

No as a teacher myself I don't think it should be mandatory but I think that children should be educated about it. I've recently taught a block of work about Judaism and Islam, the children were fascinated at the differences/similarities.
I believe in providing the experience and information, so that children can become educated and interested.

Is this a wind up or what?
this is the uk not some muslim state,I for one am sick of all this how can we help the muslim community bollocks.
All muslims need to learn to take on the british views and that includes our language. All muslims should be made to visit our british churches and take on our cultures (whats left of them)....its the muslims that do not want to intergrate with the british.
If i found out my child was learning about the muslim faith i`d pull him out of that particular lesson. We are a mainly christian country would iraq teach its children about the church e.t.c
no would be the answer. The muslim faith is a backward faith and causes so many problems not only here in the uk but all over the world.
I say ban all religions or if not then do not bring them to work or school, you can pray but do it in your own home.

Islam is the future for Muslim children, not for anyone else's. I'm a Christian but I don't think that in today's atmosphere, any belief should be taught in schools unless they are faith schools. Every Church, Mosque, Synagogue and Temple holds classes for children, if parents are so interested in their child learning about a specific belief, they should send them to these classes. I loved Sunday School.
A school is a place for academic learning, when you start delving into philosophy, especially when the child is primary age, you risk alienating Christians from Muslims, and for sure, the future is that we'll all have to integrate or disintigrate.

It is unreasonable to ask a child to learn any holy book in great detail, all schools are now required by law and under the guidance of The National Curriculum to teach about different religions and their holy books including the Qu'ran and the Bible.
In a multi cultural society children need a balanced understanding of all religions and schools are doing their best to address this.

Learning about another religion is always useful. Making any such learning mandatory is the start of making a religious state.
For sake of personal free-thought and cultural progress act to make religious learning mandatory are to be discouraged at the highest level
There are already too many fanatics from all religions and cultures.

i don't know where u from, but i will answer by saying that its only when u give a dog a chance that it licks ur face. this country has given u the chance to have a life which u cant get even in ur own country. the chance to feel like a human being and not an animal. i say this with no disrespect to any culture. in most Islamic countries, even the people themselves dont have a say in anything. they are dictated to. women are even maltreated, and are forced to marry people they dont even know. now u come to somebody's country and you want the people to study the book of your religion. to me, that is an insult to the British people. next time think before you aske.

Islam is NOT our future, its bad enough that some people move to our country expecting us to conform to their lifestyles when they wont respect our way of life first. Britain is a CHRISTIAN - we dont expect people who move here to learn the Bible so why should we learn someone else's holy book? We studied it in R.E GCSE along side the Bible, as part of the course, aside from that - it should not be taught other than in separate out-of school classes
