DUST OF SNOW

The way a crow
Shook down on me
The dust of snow
From a hemlock tree

Has given my heart
A change of mood
And saved some part
Of a day I had rued.

I think the poem is about how a very small thing can change your outlook on an otherwise terrible day. I think the hemlock tree and the crow signify death - the guy is probably going to the funeral of a loved one. The crow causes a little white snow to fall on him, reflecting the fact that even a day devoted to death reveals things worth living for.

A crow is considered a bringer of bad news, and a hemlock tree is also an unfavourable, restrictive, poisonous omen. You wouldn't want to be waiting under one. But the combination - the crow landing on the tree and dislodging cold wet snow would cause the person to move out of the way, out of the shadow.

Another way to look at it would be that if a shovelful of snow is an improvement, you must have been in a very bad mood to begin with.

Well it seems as if the person in the poem was having a bad day. And something as little as a crow shaking snow on him from a tree, lightened his day up. Maybe he found it funny, and for a second that helped him forget about his horrible day.

It makes me feel cold at first but then puts me in a better mood as if my day were going bad and then when the snow hit me it made me remember a fond memory.

This poem is about remembering a past event that you regret happening. You are attempting to make peace, and it makes you despondent to think about it.

Be more specific about what event it is, and what you are doing to resolve the event.

i dont know kinda makes me think that good stuff and bad stuff can happen to you, its just all about how you take it or how it changes you either into a better person of not.
