I would choose Tampa. I lived in Miami when I went to college and I think the kids would just be better in Tampa. In Miami durring the winter you have a lot of Candains (on top of all the other cultures) then the spring breakers are there. Miami is a young city that shows it'self off. It is a wonderful place to be exposed to diffrent cultures but, if you are not used to that it can be a little bit of a shock at first. I think school wise the kids might find Tampa easier some of the schools in Miami are not in good areas and are very old. I would check with the chamber of commerce for both places they can send you stats on schools, crime, business, jobs ect. They will usally send out a moving pack to you with no charge. Also Tampa has Busch Gardens and who wouldn't love to go there every weekend! Good Luck on your move!

Tampa or it's nearby Cities within it's County such as Temple Terrace, Brandon, Valrico, Plant City, Ruskin, Riverview, Lutz, Land-o-Lakes, Wesley Chapel.

You could do great in Miami but the cost of living is higher, it's a lot more fast-paced and busy and you can do a lot more things on a very little bit of money in Tampa with a family since it's designed with sports teams, zoos,a museum JUST FOR KIDS at Lowry Park and a Zoo with rides and a McDonalds...Miami is lovely but my friend lives in a brand-new 2/2 and it's $1350 a month...in Tampa that same brandnew apartment may at the most run you $800-900 because right now the Have fantastic deals in the great neighborhoods on Rentals (since the price of housing here is dipping drastically due to poor sales)

Miami is NOT the ideal place if you are not making a living that is above comfortable. You have to struggle to pay bills if you don't have a good higher education adn above-average bilingual English/Spanish skills.

Trust me, Tampa is the preferred over many budget-conscience Floridians but Miami is the most beautiful and most cultural of the two. Orlando area is actually cheaper to live Long-term in most spots away from Disney and even nearby (ie Ocoee and Altamonte and Maitland even Kissimmee) than Miami...Miami is near the Beach and the Coast and it caters to the Celebrities since almost all Celebrities have a Miami Home. But Tampa ALSO Has tons of Celebrities, as well so it's either or (city) for that point.

But if you want beauty and culture, Miami is the choice.
If you're looking for famil fun and have a budget, than Tampa has a LOT more to offer for free and cheap (check out www.TBO.com which is Tampa Newspaper's website and it has a Free and Cheap section for kids, families and adults every week!)

Unless you speak fluent Spanish, Then I recommend Tampa. Miami has a very high cost of living and the average pay rate is VERY low. There are ads that require years of experience, bi-lingual, and sometimes a degree to pay, get this, $8 an hour. Miami is fun to visit, and say you've been there, but not for living. While I have never been to Tampa, I can't give an opinion. But with two young children, anywhere but Miami. The school systems are poor as well, you would have to put them in private school if you would like your children to get a decent education.

Teachers are trapped in Miami-Dade school system, therefore many have lost their love for teaching. If you want to give your family a better quality of life, don't move here.

Also, you may hear that Miami people are rude. I will have to disagree, as a Miami native myself, people who grew up in Miami (the more north side, English speaking) aren't rude at all. We have alot of imports that help to give Miami, the REAL Miami, a bad name

Tampa area is much better for children. Sarasota, 35 minutes south, has one of the absolute best school districts in the state.
