Its always beautiful when you see your daughter actually turn 16 year old. It is a special moment in her life to celebrate, and see her now as a young lady growing everyday. It really depends on your budget and what she would be instrested in doing. Sit down and talk to her. I say its always better to plan about 8-9 months ahead. Because sometimes BIG parties can become very expensive. Look at it as a small wedding. Where you have the banquet, favors, food, etc. In that case a party in a banquet is something a little more traditional. But beautiful. If she would like something simple than perhaps do a small party at home, or a nice weekend vacation. For instance, I live in Florida. In the summer we like to celebrate birthdays at ocean front hotels as a family. And it is really a great time to spend not only for her but for your family all together. Maybe you can invite (1) best friend to the small vacation. There are a ton of ideas. I know of a cruise that you can take her too; where about 5 girls have individual their own Sweet Sixteen party or their Quinces known here in Florida as 15teens. I hope you come up with a great idea. And a special event for your daughter! Good Luck.

You could talk with a few of her closest friends and have them help you organize something for her. You could do a big traditional party. Or you could give her a more adult type setting with a very nice dinner party and a set number of friends, but have something set up for dancing and such afterwards. That could be a way of letting her transition into preparing to be more of an adult. I would say get her friends in on it though, because they could have some great ideas only teenagers would think of. Plus what she would enjoy most really depends on her personality, and they can help get the people she'll want there without her knowing too much.

Have a 'this is your life' party with relatives, baby stories, first-grade friends, etc.
Sixteen year olds think they are old and wise, so a retrospective (although since there are so few years, it can't last more than an hour) will make her feel very grown up. It will also give her food for thought so that she won't go out and recklessly drive the car or whatever other crazy thing kids think up to do.

An evening at a dinner theater might be a nice idea. Rather grown-up, but not to sophisticated They get dinner and a show, and after dinner they can present her a cake.

One of those "Spa Packages" would be a nice gift. They are not real expensive and she'll get a manicure, pedicure, hair cut and styled, etc. It's all those "girlie things" that teens like.
