There was a TV series where a mystery magician revealed a lot of secrets. Which might of included something like a disappearing statue of liberty. Not sure where you could find the TV series at though.

I was David Copperfield's 1st stage manager....magicians keep their secrets closely and are sworn not to reveal them but they can ONLY do three things: 1. make something appear 2. make something disappear 3. change something from one thing to another......
Our answer is simple but true....the ONLY way an illusion can be accomplished is by the OBVIOUS solution you can think of....regardless of how "impossible" it may seem. For instance, the human body seems large, but can be some 8 inches "wide" sideways....
By the way, magicians do NOT do "tricks"...they do large stage illusions, or prestidigitation, an art that takes years to accomplish. For instance, David can hold 52 cards on the back of his hand, wedged between his forefinger and pinky, and flip one out and toss it one at a time....
