No, they shouldn't ban smoking in restaurants. People have rights, and I am not talking about smokers. I don't give a damn about smokers one way or the other. Restaurant owners have the right to do as they wish with their private property.

If you don't like smoke-filled restaurants, go to a smoke-free one. By the rules of competitive advantage, the market will make a choice. No intrusive government needed.

There are doctors and scientists who believe the dangers of second-hand smoke are over-rated, but that is not relevant.

Well...unless you are only following Texas news, this is the way things are going in the nation and in the world. California has had a smoking ban for quite a while now. Ohio passed one last year, I think there's one in NYC...many other states and/or cities in this country have smoking bans, I know Michigan is in the process of considering it and there are several European countries that have one or are planning one. Get used to it. I'm a smoker that has tried on more than one occasion to quit - once the ban finally takes effect in Ohio in June, I will find it that much easier to try again to quit...unfortunately, Michigan is just a short drive up the road so until they have a ban, it won't be totally easy.

I don't think anyone should have the right to ban it; but I think people who do smoke should be more considerate.
I am allergic to smoke, allergies and asthma. I literally choke when someone blows smoke in my face.
Instead of me having to move or hide, I think smokers should ask people around them; " will my smoking bother you". Instead they act like victims; " oh, I just have to have a smoke", without consideration to those around them who it might bother.
It is a fact that 2nd hand smoke can really make other people sick, but they refuse to acknowledge it. They are very selfish people and they have to wake up.
In the past ten years there has only been "one" person who asked me first if it would bother me before lighting up.

You are very right. I love it when all of these non smokers use the line "why should I have to breath your smoke". They don't even consider the fact the factories put out 300 times more carcinogens than any cigarette.

You miss the point--it's all about the neocons controlling personal behavior--of anyone other than themselves, of course. Thats what the discrimination against gays is about--and the KKK--and this "anti-smoking ban" nonsense. Oh--you forgot the mandatory vaccinations for STDs (same dictator--er, I mean governor).

But hten, is anyone still under the illusion the right-wing in this country actually believes in freedom?

because your cigarette is a health concern for everyone else in the room... Legally, in common law this is called a "Nuicence".. Your actions are detremental to the health of those around you..

Gay people getting married affects no one but themselves and the people who hate gays.. And personnaly I think that if you hate gays there is something wrong with you..

And the KKK is exhibiting freedom of speech and freedom to assemble in public.. As long as they don't physically harm a black person or whoever else they hate they are abiding by the law..

Governmental intrusion in our lives continues unfettered, in this case on the grounds that your right to smoke ends when it affects the right to breathe clean air in a public building. There are ways around it, though. Bars can charge a membership fee of $1 and call themselves a private club, thus making them exempt from the law.

I live in a state where smoking has been banned in restaurants and bars for several years and it is great. I don't gag, because of somebody else's filthy habit, while trying to enjoy a meal.

From a non-smoker... I don't give a rat's behind if you smoke and kill yourself because of it. Second hand smoke can come my way and I don't want any part of it.

I think its great. Florida already has that law, and its wonderful to walk into a place and enjoy a meal or drink without needing a shower afterword to remove the stench of cigarette smoke.

Sounds better than mandatory vaccines. I don't know what's going on. The government is really starting to think they know better than the people.
