I am a third-grade teacher and I am inquiring if there is a safe, secure, Internet search engine to use in the classroom for research?? If you know of one, please pass it on. :)

I teach "Navigating the Internet" for a gifted children's program funded through a federal grant. My kids are in 4th-6th grades.

I am attaching several "Kid Safe" websites for all types of activities you can use:

Science:
www.discovery.com
www.sciencemadesimple.com

Cooking:
www.pillsbury.com
www.cookingwithkids.com

History:
www.historyforkids.org
www.kidsdomain.com

Math:
www.coolmath4kids.com
www.edu4kids.com

Government:
http://bensguide.gpo.gov
http://whitehouse.gov/kids

Other:
www.kids.msn.com
www.disney.com

For a general search engine, we use ask.com. Hope this helps.

My nephew's computer teacher says that Google is the worst because the "bad guys" all want to blanket Google with adult material and spam. Yahoo is better, and then there are search engines intended for kids. Take a look at this page: it has good recommendations.

I don't think there is a "safe" search engine out there. You can search anything you want. There are some parental control options you can put on the search engines not allowing them to search certain stuff. I think Yahoo has that option.

Hi- I think that the Internet is a very dangerous place, but at the same time- can be very wonderful and enriching. Yahooligans.com is a good site for younger kids. It is full of interesting facts and helps with homework. Hopefully this helps. Thanks for asking. =)

I use Google, but that isn't the best one. Try Ask For Kids. http://www.askforkids.com/

It gives one answer, and they scan all the results, plus all the links on the results.
