My Husband and I are moving to Ramstein AFB in October. Some poeple have told us that we cant take any electronics from America over to Germany becuase of the voltage difference. But some people said we can do it if we have a different convertor for each item....so which is it, b/c I dont want to have to get a new TV and everything just b/c we have to move?

it answers all your questions.

Your friends are right - you'll need converters/transformers and depending on the power you'll different ones check the nominal power of your appliance and buy a transformer for this power - it should sustain this power as nominal, NOT peak power.

Everything will work except for TV/DVD/VCR, unless you'll use them together (to watch your U.S. videos in NTSC). And Ramstein AFB has its own 1 (one) channel in NTSC

I had a friend who moved EVERYTHING (Washer/Dryer/Stereo/TV with VCR - to watch videos/small appliances). I found it extreme, but I still use my stereo and espresso from Europe in the U.S. (connected through transformers). For espresso I use a very powerful transformer (and unplug it when not in use) and for stereo - a smaller one.

Don't worry much about the frequency difference (unless you have a special time of electric clock).

And last thing - probably you do NOT need transformers for your PCs and some other electronics - it might be a dual voltage already (it should have a tiny switch somewhere - most of PCs have it, and laptops recognize voltage automatically). You'll just need a tiny adapter to plug them, costs about $1.

Unfortunatly you will need to get a new TV and anything that is motorized. Not only is the voltage higher, it is at 50 hz vs the US 60 hz. This means that motors will run slower and hotter. The signals used for TV broadcasts in Europe are also different so even VCRs will not work. If your planning to take video while there, You can use a US camcorder but you wont be able to watch it there. But you will be able to bring the memories back with you.

Judging by ways usa is doing presently, i does not ingredient any palms at Europe. constructive some international locations are in hardship, what's new approximately that. the ingredient is they have been given into hardship by doing precisely what Obama is doing here. Overspending, too many mandates devoid of money to pay for them, overly beneficiant Gov. pensions, extensive national debt, sounds very well-known does not it.

hey,
I am living in belgium for a year, and I brought some, but certainly not all my electronics, but this is what i have found. your electronics will need a converter... but which ones depends which kinds. laptops, for example, who already have a power converter in the power cord should just need a plug adapter. others without this will need a converter.
hope this helps

no..i know walmart sells the converters..it is on the aisle with suitcases. But you should check and get a more high quality one for your tv, they might be too small of volts. It isnt the "volts" that is different, well it is- but it is the Plug. our two prong or three prong plug is different.

If you look in travel guide books at the country you are going to, it will let you know what kind of converter you need.
